Meet Brittany Chillot, our new Addictions Counseling Coordinator. Brittany answered a few questions about how her role supports community members facing addiction.
What is your role as an Addictions Counseling Coordinator?
Brittany: “I coordinate addiction care here at Union. I am here to walk with community members on their journey to recovery from substance use. Addiction services means prevention, treatment, maintenance, and recovery.
I am also here to support Providers at Union who offer Medication-Assisted Treatment, while also collaborating with outside resources to figure out how we can all partner together for a stronger, healthier community.“
What addictions can you support the community through?
Brittany: “Some of the more commonly abused substances include alcohol, opioids, cannabis, nicotine, amphetamines, cocaine, and methamphetamine.“
What kind of approach do you take when supporting a community member who is dealing with substance use?
Brittany: “I believe every case is different. We have seen community members who are brand new to addiction services, and others who lived with substance use for decades. Our care is really focused on meeting a person where they are at, and understanding that every person’s story is unique.“
Why is each person’s unique story important when treating addiction?
Brittany: “The services that we are providing can support a community member with what they need. Our goal is to help anyone that we interact with safely and effectively recover from substance use without intoxication, impairment, or fear of withdrawal symptoms.”
Why should someone come to Union to find support with addiction?
Brittany: “We offer 360 care! So often with addiction care we see community members who are in need of more than just addiction care. At Union, we are able to offer medical services, dental services, social support services, behavioral health services, and pharmacy services. By choosing Union, you can easily and conveniently get connected to all of those services.“
How can someone take the step to connect with substance use disorder services?
Brittany: “Community members can reach out to me by calling 717-299-6371, or they can be referred to me by their Primary Care Provider. Together, we work to figure out the best next steps.”
